Step Two in Creating Your Thriving Business and Lifestyle

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
May 02 2012

Step two is Making the Decision that YOU ARE doing this.

This is vital to your success. Making the decision means you eliminate the possibility of failure; you eliminate your back up plan; you eliminate all thoughts of doubt, fear and worry. Sound impossible?

You stay crystal clear on this decision. In step one, you decided who you want to serve, how you want to serve them and why. Now, you’re getting rid of obstacles that can sabotage your success.

These obstacles WILL creep into your life. That’s why it’s imperative that you have the right tools and use them. All successful people have a mega tools box that includes techniques and a support network to help them stick to their decision to succeed.

Hill Step Two in Creating Your Thriving Business and LifestyleIf you haven’t yet read Napoleon Hill’s “Think And Grow Rich” I highly recommend you read it. If you have, you may want to re-read it. His book “The Master-Key To Riches” is also full of tools to help you make a decision and stick to your decision.

Allow yourself to become impregnated with your decision. Think about it often, carry it with you constantly, envision its delivery daily. This focus attracts the opportunities you need to succeed.

Stay focused on one major goal at a time until you get the results you’re looking for.

Definiteness of purpose leads to success. Walter Chrysler started as a mechanic in a railroad shop. He saved $4000 and spent every dime of his savings on a car (his friends and family thought he was crazy). Then he tore the car apart (his friends and family thought he might need to be committed to the hospital). Walter tore the car apart and put it back together several times so he could understand the automobile; it’s strengths and weaknesses. He then built his own automobile with much improvement over what he had purchased with his life savings. He made a clear decision when he was working as a mechanic and stuck to his decision to provide great automobiles.

You want to have a support network to help you achieve your purpose. You are the sum of who you spend most of your time with. Are you surrounding yourself with like-minded, goal oriented, supportive, successful people? It’s also extremely helpful to have a coach or mentor who will give you a step-by-step plan, shortcuts and believe in you when you don’t believe in yourself.

I have several coaches. One of my coaches, David Neagle, talks extensively about the terror barrier. He explains that when we make a big decision to go for it our entire world blows up in our face. It’s the ego trying to scare us back to the small comfort zone we’re wanting so badly to break out of.

I remember one of my biggest teleseminars… the night before I got stung by a scorpion on my hand and neck. OMG that hurt. I could have easily said I can’t do the call. It was painful to type but I was determined and I did it anyway. The teleseminar was fun and I got several new clients.

During my last Fast Start Class, my regular phone completely died five minutes before my launch call. I switched phones and during the call, it caught on fire – literally! During the call, I switched phones again and kept on going.

Finances are another way the ego tries to stop us. When I hired my first coach, years ago, I was expecting a check for some work I had done. This company had some problems and the check didn’t come through. Ouch. I was counting on that money. I had already made the CLEAR DECISION to hire this coach. I wasn’t about to quit. My credit cards were maxed out. I knew I had to do something. I sat down and listed all the ways I could get the money. At the last minute, I attracted new clients and that paid for my coaching, airfare to New York, room and food. That investment in that coaching has paid for itself fifteen times over. If I had allowed myself to be stopped, I’d probably be working for someone else right now….and not very happy.

There will be obstacles and times you feel you absolutely cannot go on. We call these the terror barriers. If you give into these barriers, your ego will know exactly how to stop you again and again and again.

I want to give you some tools to help you through the terror barrier when it comes up for you (and it will. It comes up for all of us, including me).

Here’s how to stay true to your decision and YOU WILL SUCCEED:

Action Steps –

(Print this and write in your answers)

What is your definiteness of purpose?

What is your clear decision to fulfill your purpose?

Instead of saying “I can’t…”

Ask “How can I…”

Breathe and let it go. The answers will come – they always do. The key is to be calm so you can hear the answers.

As answers come, write them down and TAKE ACTION

Make a plan of action and work your plan.

List all the ideas that come to mind. Then, after you’ve emptied your mind, keep going and allow the Universe to give you twenty-five ways. This is divine guidance coming to you. Circle the top three from the entire list that are the quickest and easiest to reach your goal fast. Fulfill each of the three methods until your goal is met.

Make the decision that YOU ARE doing this.

Get out of your head – this is where all the mental sabotaging chatter is waiting to stop you. You want to be centered, grounded and clear.

Have faith that everything is coming together NOW for YOU.

Get tools and support – There are many books talking about the power of making clear decisions. The books I mentioned earlier by Napoleon Hill are helpful. He states making decisive decisions and sticking to those decisions is one thing all of the greatest successful people have in common. He also wrote you cannot be successful by changing your mind constantly or not having a clear focus. Maybe or someday is not a decision. YES or NO is your decision.

Affirmation I use myself: “I make clear, decisive decisions and follow through one hundred percent!”

Hint – There will never be enough time waiting for you to go for it. There will never be enough money waiting for you to go for it. You most likely will not feel “ready”. All these excuses are just the ego wanting to keep you down. Just remember YES or NO. Not maybe or someday. Be real and honest with yourself. You’re only cheating yourself if you’re not. Most of all, have fun and do things that make you happy. It sounds too easy, I know, but when you’re happy your vibration attracts more of that which makes you happy.

Life is meant to be abundant and fun. People make it difficult.

The only way you can fail is if you quit.

Next time, I’ll share with you how to attract the clients you want.

If you’re ready for help achieving the success you want, I have 5 free “Breaking Through To Your Success” strategy calls available this month. Contact me here to set one up. Serious inquiries only, please.

Step One in Creating Your Thriving Business and Lifestyle

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
Apr 18 2012

Step one is CLEARLY identifying what you want to do – how you want to serve or help others.

Step One in Creating Your Thriving Business and LifestyleMany of my clients get flustered here because they have many passions and they’re very good at several ways to help others. You want to get started with ONE, you can add to this later. To begin, you want to get crystal clear about ONE way you want to help others.

Entrepreneurs are known for being very creative and starting numerous projects. They’re not known for finishing most of those projects. If you don’t finish your project and get it out to the public, you don’t get paid and nobody benefits. Most who scatter themselves in multiple directions become exhausted and run out of resources before they see any financial gain. This is when they quit.

Stay focused on one thing until you prosper with that one thing.

Then you may ask, as many do, “how do I know if I’m focusing on the right thing”?

How do you know you’re focusing on the right thing?

Here are specific action steps to assist you in your decision making process:

Remember, you’re here to have fun and enjoy life. If it doesn’t feel like fun, don’t do it. If you’re only doing it for the money, it’s not your true passion.

YOUR passion is put in YOUR heart for a reason, not mine, not your friend’s or neighbors. It’s given to YOU.

Read through this, then close your eyes and do the exercise. Take a deep breath in. And another deep breath in…. Close your eyes. Continue breathing deep and relaxing. Now, I’m asking you… if you had all the money you could ever want and all the time… you can do whatever you want. How would you choose to spend your time? You also get to spend some of your time helping others with something that’s important to you; that you’re passionate about. How would you choose to help others?

Write your answers down:

I would spend my time:

I would help others:

Now, do a mental and emotional check in. If you knew you would not be judged by others, would you pick the same thing? Or, did you choose something because it felt safe? Are you trying to make someone else happy by doing this?

Answer the following questions to help you in this awareness exercise. Do this quickly, do NOT filter your answers. Write in the first thing that comes to mind. There is no right or wrong answer. Some of the questions are asked more than once. Give a different answer for each question:

ANSWER QUICKLY

If I do _______________, others will:

If I do _______________, others will:

If I do _______________, I will feel:

If I do _______________, I could:

If I do _______________, my spouse would:

If I do _______________, my children would:

If I do _______________, I would:

If I do _______________, others will think:

If I do _______________, I will be:

If I do _______________, I could finally:

From this exercise, I’m now aware of:

The previous exercises will help you with the next one.

Identify your “why”

Why is providing this thing or service to others important to you? This is personal for you. You’ll most likely feel emotional when you think about why this is important to you. I like this phrase: “If your why don’t make you cry, it ain’t your why”.

Why this is important to me:

Get a little deeper…. And why is this (answer from above) important to me?

When you know your “why” it will carry you through the tough days and on to victory, happiness, health, wealth and abundance.

Above is a photo of me helping others grow their business. I love doing this because I’ve worked in a corporate job that robbed me of my health and happiness. I ended up in the hospital with complete burnout. This was a very scary time in my life. That was the turning point leading me to quit corporate and focus on what I want to do with my life. Doing what I love is so rewarding, fulfilling and fun. I want everyone to experience this.

Now it’s your turn.

Are You Living Your Passion?

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
Apr 04 2012

You may be thinking: “What does living your passion have to do with growing a successful business”? The answer: EVERYTHING!

sunflower Are You Living Your Passion? When you’re living your passion, you’re happy and in flow with the universe. You’re no longer in resistance. This is key to getting more accomplished in less time with less effort and more fun (my specialty topic).

Sounds easy enough. So why isn’t everyone living their passion?

This is a deep, ongoing topic. I want to go ahead and give you a few keys to increasing your awareness so you can make choices that deliberately lead to YOUR ideal lifestyle.

So often, we’ll pray to God or ask the Universe for the answer or help.

The answer comes and we say “no”. No, that’s not what I want to do. No, I don’t want to pay for a class that will teach me how to solve this problem. Or, commonly, no – I have a better way.

Why do we say no when the solution to our situation has been given? (Pay attention here, your clients are doing this to you too)

I’ve noticed many will say I want to do _______, someday. It sounds good. I know it will help – in the future – not today. Human nature is interesting. They ask for the solution now, the solution is given, and they say no.

No is often someone actually saying: “I don’t feel worthy yet”.  We may be feeling overwhelmed, disempowered or unclear about the outcome. We may be thinking way down the road instead of staying focused on what’s in front of us right now. This certainly turns into overwhelm and uncertainty. It’s like trying to listen to music on 109.7FM while tuned into 108AM.

You’re not going to get what you want until you CLEARLY IDENTIFY what you want, say YES when the solution comes to you, and FOLLOW THROUGH 100%.

How do you know you’re on the right track or following the ego?

When you’re on the right track you feel empowered, happy, fulfilled and in the flow with God and the Universe. When it’s the ego, you may feel safe – staying in your comfort zone. However, you’ll soon have that reoccurring feeling of discontent nagging at you to grow…. and then, that previous inspiration will return to you again. It’s a process of increasing your awareness and consciously/purposely expanding and creating your life.

How do you tune into this awareness?

You must be out of your mind (I couldn’t resist this play on words). Literally, you want to relax the mind because it’s the mind and mental chatter that keeps you from tapping into Source/God/Universe, thus, keeping you busily spinning in circles. You become frustrated because you’re working your tail off and not accomplishing your goals.

Simple exercises to relax the mind:

Breathe ~ in for the count of three and out for the count of five (this keeps the mind focused while you relax). Focus on the color blue. The color blue is used in healing modalities for soothing and relaxing emotionally, along with calming physical inflammation.

Meditate ~ Listen to soft music without lyrics. Allow yourself to feel within and to connect to your higher-self/God/Source/Universe.

Gentle stretching ~ Listen to your body, feel your body. Let go completely and just feel your own presence.

I Am Awareness ~ Declare out loud “I AM one with God/Source/Universe.

Do these exercises while on your “me breaks”, at lunch, upon just waking up, before retiring for the evening, during yoga, while hiking, etc.

I also recommend connecting with a group of like-minded professionals who want to expand their consciousness and deliberately create their ideal lifestyle.

For those of you who are in or near Sedona, AZ, you are welcome to join me at my home for my FIRST EVER “Creating Your Ideal Lifestyle” group discussion. This is a free opportunity for people who want to consciously create their ideal lifestyle, business and income, remove blockages and move into greater awareness of the limitless life available to you. If you would like to be invited contact me.

Namaste.

How to Set Effective Goals (and Accomplish them!)

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
Mar 14 2012

Last week, my friend Les asked me: “How do you accomplish so much? How did you find time to create 5 books, 3 CDs, coaching programs, training calls, speaking gigs and you really do have quality time and fun with family and friends…. how???” I’ve been asked this often, so I’m going to share my secret with you. It’s all about having a vision and setting goals.

First you want to understand why having a goal is important.

It’s really not… unless you want change and growth in your life.

moneypuzzle How to Set Effective Goals (and Accomplish them!)1. Identify EXACTLY what change and growth you want in your life – the RESULT. What does the end picture look like? Imagine yourself sitting down to put a puzzle together. What’s the first thing you do? You look at the box top so you can see the picture; what the end result is – what do you want this pile of pieces to look like? How will you know you’ve accomplished your GOAL of a completed puzzle? It’s when all your individual pieces come together and create the picture on the box top.

2. Having a goal is a magnet that pulls you forward to create and better yourself. Keep your focus on your goal (your result). This is especially important when you have an off day or week. Stay focused on your goal, no matter what, and you’ll pull yourself out of any funk.

How do you set effective goals?

1. State your goal in positive terms.

Instead of saying “I’m out of debt” (debt is the opposite of what you want to attract), say “All my credit cards are paid off.”

2. Visualize your goal as accomplished

See your credit card statements with a zero balance.

3. State and visualize your goal as if it’s already happened

“All my credit cards are paid off.”

Create the plan and work the plan

1. Set an accomplishment date

All credit cards are paid off by 12/31/11

2. Give yourself benchmark goals

Pay an extra $20 or $50 (whatever you can do) each month on your credit card

3. Break your goal down so you see results quickly - this helps you stay motivated

Pay off one credit card so you see the zero balance then work on the next credit card

4. Reward yourself for a job well done

Give yourself something meaningful and/or fun for each goal accomplished

It can be as easy as going to a movie or out to dinner – something that brings a smile to your face.

5. One change at a time

Many fail at goals and New Year’s resolutions because they attempt to change everything at once: lose weight, stop smoking, pay off credit cards, get more clients, etc. They go into overload and gradually over time (sometimes as little as a week) abandon the entire idea of growth or change.

Same actions = same results.

Add only one thing to change per week. Don’t try to change too much at one time – it’s not a race. Follow the steps given today. Create the plan and work the plan.

6. Most of all…. HAVE FUN!!!

Effective goal setting is covered in my book “Yes I Can With A Plan! How To Be A Successful Entrepreneur” gifted to my coaching clients and found on my website.

How to Get the Most Out of Trade Shows

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
Feb 29 2012

Whether you’re attending a trade show as an exhibitor or an attendee, as a business owner, your intention is to make contacts. You’re looking for contacts that can help make your business and life easier, lead to clients and more business. Although, there’s lots of bling to look at and it’s great to socialize with like-minded people, lets’ face it, this is not a social event, it’s a business event.

peopletalking How to Get the Most Out of Trade ShowsThe business piece of a trade show doesn’t stop at the event. It’s carried into the days, weeks, months and even years to follow. This can lead to many, many opportunities. Unfortunately, this is exactly where most miss the target… and miss the gold… turn their back on their ship that came in.

Most are so busy getting on to the next “thing” that they don’t get the depth of what this one event can offer them. They don’t take the time to develop and nurture relationships that are made at trade shows, and other networking opportunities, as well.

The next time you’re at a trade show, stand back and watch how many run around like children trick-or-treating, running from one person to the next trying to SELL their goods and collect as many business cards as possible. It looks like a feeding frenzy at the fish pond.

Here’s how to get the most out of trade shows so they’re not just one more time wasting activity that you feel you must do (so you do) but don’t really feel it’s worth the time, money and effort:

1. If you’re an exhibitor, dress it up and make it fun. Dress yourself up as well – you are the professional. Stand out from the crowd. The same goes for your booth. Add some fun – candy, balloons, bling. This can be a lot of fun and people naturally gravitate toward fun.

2. Watch your body language, especially if you’re an exhibitor. When someone approaches your booth, stand up and greet them with a smile and a firm handshake. If you are in a conversation with your booth buddy, let it go and give your attention to your prospective client. Your body language says a lot. Facing your client says: “My doors are open to you.” When you turn sideways it says: “My doors are closed to you.” And when your back is turned toward another it tells them you’re too busy or not interested in them.

3. If you’re attending the trade show (or any networking event), dress yourself up. Be the change you’re wanting to bring to the world. If it’s success, dress as if you are the success you are creating for yourself and others. If it’s fun you want to bring to the event, wear bright colors. Be creative and have fun. Stand out from the crowd.

4. Don’t treat the event as a feeding frenzy and you’re a starving piranha. Slow down. Scan the room and decide who you want to meet. Spend time with each person and talk (without monopolizing their time). Ask questions. Find out more about them and their needs. Ask if there’s anything you can do to help. I’ve not only made great business contacts this way, I’ve also developed lasting friendships. (If they’re acting like a starving piranha, move on.)

5. Make notes. After every contact, stop and write down a few notes about the person and their business. You’ll refer to these notes when you follow up.

6. Follow up. Follow up. Follow up. This is where most completely miss the boat. Why? Because you’re busy! As a business owner, you’re always busy. Who has time to call or e-mail all those contacts you made at the trade show? How do people do it? There must be some really good vitamins out there that you haven’t discovered yet – right? Not at all. If I can do it, you can do it.

Make follow up after the event a number one priority.
Write follow up time(s) into your Daily Success System.
Give your follow up time a specific date, start time and stop time.

If you don’t know what to say, refer to your notes you jotted down at the event. Ask them if there’s anything you can do to help them. Do not call to sell them something. Be in service, not sales. When they use your services, it will be a winning combo for both of you.

Only follow up with those who are interested in your services/products. If it was clear at the trade show, that it wasn’t a good fit, don’t waste time and energy following up hoping something could possibly someday come from it. You need serious contacts.

(You may use the Daily Success System provided by Yes I Can With A Plan or any system you choose – the key is sticking to it)

To Do or Not To Do – The Art of Delegating

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
Feb 15 2012

delegating To Do or Not To Do The Art of DelegatingI like to refer to delegating as “The art of letting go of that which you do not thoroughly enjoy, to embrace more of who you really are and sharing this aspect of yourself abundantly”. Sounds great right? At the same time, you may wonder how to do this when you have so many balls in the air, you can’t remember the last time you actually took a lunch break.

The key here is to start small. Many of us have the all or nothing mentality in many realms of our life. This is why New Year’s Resolutions don’t work (more on that later).

Why delegate? Because there is no way on this planet you will be able to run a successful business and enjoy life while you’re trying to accomplish everything by yourself. Think about it. Do you know anyone who is playing big that is doing it all by him/herself? I guarantee you Donald Trump and Oprah have teams to make sure everything is accomplished, and they don’t go bonkers in the process.

Delegating things like filing and bookkeeping frees up your time to do more money making activities (during work hours only). Think about how much you make an hour and how much you could be paying someone to free up your time from administrative work and other tasks you do not need to be doing. If you charge $200 an hour, and pay someone $30 an hour, to free up more time that you can make $200 an hour….. this should be a no-brainer!

So why doesn’t everyone delegate?

Most entrepreneurs suffer from a condition known as “controlfreakidous”. I know because I have it too. Hey, my business is my baby. Like giving birth and caring for your child – you’re not going to just trust your baby with anyone. It must be a very special person whom you can trust – right?

We rationalize (rational lies): why take the time to train someone when I can just do it myself in less time. Yes, it will take time to train the new person. And it’s worth it because this frees up your time to do other money making activities and fun things.

As business owners, we find it difficult to give up control. And even when we do, we take it right back after a short time (funny creatures, aren’t we).    Here’s an exercise to help you see if you should delegate and what to start with:

How much you make an hour __________
Would you pay a file clerk this much?
You are now.
And, this busy work is keeping you from higher paying jobs.

Keep track of how you spend your time – How much time is spent filing, bookkeeping, updating your website, creating new brochures, chasing payments, setting appointments (personal and business), ordering new cards, lining up meeting spaces, cleaning your office, running things to the post office, etc.

Hire your children, a neighbor, a retired friend (retirees love to help).

Start small, with one task such as cleaning your office space or running errands like going to the post office.

Pay only for the time worked and set a budget. When I started, I had a very tight budget. I could only afford five hours a month. So, that’s what I did. That five hours a month allowed me to be more focused on creating better services for my clients and money making activities.

Train this new little helper elf. Let her know exactly what is expected and when the job needs to be completed by. Letting her know the due date and time is very important, otherwise it just lingers and you’re frustrated. This is a big mistake a lot of business owners make. Once they’re trained, don’t micro-manage. Give them space to do the task and trust them. You want to gain their respect. Treat them as an equal and important part of the business, not a servant.

Action Steps: Identify one thing to delegate this week, and delegate it.

Repeat this process next week or next month (when you feel comfortable). This is an easy way to learn how to let go of control so you get more accomplished.

Have fun and let me know how you do. Did you find this article helpful?

The Ultimate Way to Stand Out From the Crowd AND Create LOYAL Clients

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
Feb 01 2012

Let’s face it; you have a lot of companies competing for your clients. With so many choices, you have to be different. You have to stand out from the crowd.

circleofpeopleimages The Ultimate Way to Stand Out From the Crowd AND Create LOYAL ClientsThere are many ways to stand out and get noticed. Some business gurus will tell you to be controversial and create friction, like Charlie Sheen. Others will tell you to follow what’s hot in the news and try to ride the coat tails of the latest story. And others still, will tell you to go where most do not like to go… political (I would think this blends in with controversial).

I’m not going to suggest you do any of these things. I prefer to utilize techniques with lasting results.

The very best thing you can do to stand out from the crowd and get noticed is providing top-notch customer service. Sadly, this is exactly what’s lacking in so many businesses. It’s easy to get caught up or buried in the never-ending work load if we don’t take a conscious stand against such a dilemma (more on this later or check out the Fast Start Class.

Here are a few examples of what not to do, followed by positive examples that will increase not only your business, but create LOYAL clients who bring their friends (word of mouth is the best advertising – and it’s free).

Don’t be too important to be bothered…
gettinghelp The Ultimate Way to Stand Out From the Crowd AND Create LOYAL ClientsYears ago my truck was stolen (bummer!) and never recovered. It probably ended up down in Mexico. I received a check from my insurance company to go out and purchase another vehicle. I really liked my Dodge Ram at the time so one of the vehicles I looked at was another Dodge Ram (yip, I’m a truck girl). The sales guy was so put out that it was hot outside and he had to lift a finger. He actually asked me if I had to test drive the vehicle and complained that it was too hot and waawaawaawaa. When we got back from the test-drive, he drove off in the truck – nearly running over my foot. Needless to say, I did buy another truck… but not from him or that dealership.

Don’t be a know-it-all:
Two years ago I went to my local car service station. I had been going there for years. I found the owner had retired. The sweet old man I trusted had been replaced by a young uncaring know-it-all. When I asked if he would rotate the tires his reply was “Lady, we don’t just rotate tires for the hell of it”. That was the last time I went to my neighborhood service station. And, I told all my friends about my horrible experience (word-of mouth advertising – only this time in the negative – ouch!).

Here are a few positive stories showing you what does work:

Over deliver:
The other day my friend went into Starbucks for a double-espresso. The Barista repeatedly apologized for taking longer than 10 seconds and made him a new triple-espresso for free. By company rules, she threw out the first one because their research shows the espresso starts losing its full flavor after 10 seconds.

Friendly service:
I’ve used various merchant accounts for my credit card processing. After being completely frustrated with Wells Fargo’s lack of customer service and confusing statements, I turned to another company. Wow, what a nice change. It’s a completely different experience. When I call customer service, I get an answer within two rings. Their service is always helpful and courteous. Plus, they don’t charge those crazy compliance fees. And, their fees were the lowest I’ve ever found. I’m a lifetime client of theirs now. I have also told all my friends about this wonderful find. Here’s their website for you too.

Appreciate them:
We all mess up sometimes. The other day, a client ordered the downloadable version of my Yes I Can With A Plan How to be a Successful Entrepreneur. There was a glitch with the download that I didn’t know about until she e-mailed me asking how long it would take to receive her book. It should have already been sent. I apologized for the delay, told her I greatly appreciate her business and gave her the Goal Success System as my free gift. She was pleasantly surprised.

ACTION STEPS -

Take a look at your customer service. Where can you improve? There’s always room for improvement.

Do you deliver when you say you will?
How do you handle disgruntle clients?
Are you under-delivering or over-delivering?
Do you leave a clean environment when finished with your job/task?
Do you follow up with you clients?
Do you go the extra mile for your clients?
Have you made mistakes?
How do you help your clients feel appreciated when you do make a mistake?

What does battered women’s syndrome and being an entrepreneur have in common?

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
Jan 19 2012

Sorry about the gloomy title. Unfortunately, it is reality for many.  I’ve got to tell ya about some of the business owners I’ve been talking to lately.  Some of you are making your lives miserable and it’s completely unnecessary.

Please accept this from my heart, with deep compassion. And make sure to see the video below.

voiceisaliar What does battered women’s syndrome and being an entrepreneur have in common?I know being an entrepreneur can be difficult.  If it was easy everyone would do it.  Most entrepreneurs fail within the first three years.  It’s a brutal playing ground and will challenge you to grow in every way.  On top of this, many are making it way more difficult than need be.  Being your own boss can be fun and amazingly fulfilling.

Many of you know that my corporate background was in marketing and advertising… until I ended up in the hospital.  Then I went back to ASU, earning my master’s in psychotherapy.  One of my first therapy clients, during my internship, was a woman just out of prison for killing her husband who beat her up for the last time.  Statistics show that most abuse victims return to their abuser an average of seven times before they either leave for good or are killed by their abuser.

So, what does this have to do with being an entrepreneur?  I invite you to feel your way through this writing.

First, I want to congratulate those who ARE getting help and taking steps to grow and improve their lives. This writing is for those who say they don’t have enough clients, don’t have enough money and don’t know what to do… the ones who feel like life is an uphill battle every day.  They feel stuck. They are stuck.  Let’s help them get unstuck…

Battered Women Syndrome and The Struggling Entrepreneur Comparison:

They’re both so deeply stuck in fear they’re paralyzed and afraid to take any action.

They take a beating, emotionally, spiritually, physically and return for more again and again because they don’t know any other way.

They complain about how bad things are and may go to friends to ask advice.  When expert advice is offered, they turn it down in fear of being judged, being wrong, making things worse, etc.

Feeling completely disempowered and frustrated, they go back to what they know.  They do the same actions again and again, hoping for and even expecting, a different outcome – NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!  (This is the definition of insanity).  Read that last part again, it’s that important.

I talked to a couple the other day who have been trying for ten years to get their business off the ground.  They did what they know… take out an ad in the local paper, run a special discounted price.  After $15,000 spent in advertising with minimal and temporary results, they’re out of money, living in a space for free,  and it’s affecting their relationship.

They have never hired a business coach. They just try harder…. doing more of the same.  Watch the video below to see how trying harder works out…

How are you FEELING about your life and your business?

If you identify with this article, get help or get out and stop abusing yourself. Sorry to sound harsh but something must change and you must change it.

You want to work with an expert who can really help you – not a friend or family member.
Hire a coach.   Too much money?  Ask your coach if there’s another option – I would love to get started.  I’m ready to do whatever it takes.  How can I make this happen?

You do have choices.  And I want to empower you to utilize this ability to make choices for yourself.  This means getting off the fence (yes or no, not maybe).   If you’re ready to get off the fence and create a life you love, Contact me for a free “Breakthrough to Brilliance” session. There are many ways we can work together – options for every budget and level of readiness for change.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

How Outrageously Successful Entrepreneurs Manage Their Time

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
Jan 04 2012

I like to make everything fun… life’s too important to get weighed down, down, down by the media and all your “to-do’s”.

YogaontheBeach How Outrageously Successful Entrepreneurs Manage Their TimeYou have a gazillion things on your list to do today… if you’re an entrepreneur, this is no exaggeration. How can you make it fun? Is it really possible?

Yes it is….. I’m living proof and so are my clients. Here’s what you do to have more fun and get everything accomplished:

Manage your work time so you have more fun time. Not that your work isn’t fun. But, I do know there are a lot of entrepreneurs who are not having fun. They’re stressed out, not enjoying their family and not bringing in the money they want. This is not the way life is meant to be lived.

One of the first things I teach my clients is how to manage their time so they get more accomplished in less time with less effort and have more quality time for themselves and their loved ones. I want to help you avoid making the mistakes I made that landed me in the hospital because I thought I had to do it all… Superwomen complex (thank goodness that’s over).

You want to be effective and manage your work time so you get more accomplished in less time.

Focus on one thing at a time.
Yes that’s right – one thing at a time. I know we’ve been brainwashed into multi-tasking, especially if you’re from corporate, like me. That simply does not work – not for sustained success.

Give each task a specific start and stop time.
Before I sat down to write this, I had it scheduled in my Yes I Can With A Plan! Daily Success System from 9:00 to 10:00. This means all I do during this time is focus on creating this newsletter for you. I don’t jump up and get my next cup of coffee or go to the bathroom, or (whatever excuse) …. this is just your mind playing tricks on you and taking you off task. Stay focused during this time, then reward yourself with a cup of coffee, or whatever you would like.

It doesn’t mean it must be completely finished in this time. Actually, because I have a system (for everything, including creating my newsletters), my newsletters are now fun to create and take 1/2 the time they used to take.

Why is managing your time as an entrepreneur important?
Because time is your most precious commodity. Once it’s gone…. it’s gone. We cannot borrow time. We cannot bank time for the future. As entrepreneurs, we’re busy. We wear many different hats in our business and have family, spouses, children, friends… many other hats we wear. If you don’t take the time to nourish your relationships, they’ll be gone.

Make the most of each and every day.
I’ve never heard of anyone laying on their death bed wishing they would have worked more. However, if you’re like me, you’re on a mission to fulfill your purpose and help others do the same. We passionately want to get so much accomplished while we’re here.

Imagine everything during your day runs smoothly… all tasks are completed with ease and grace. What will you do with all your new found time?

Action Steps:

1. Identify what you really want to accomplish. List all these ideas and to-do’s. Do a brain dump so it’s off your mind, freeing up space and energy, and onto the paper.

2. Prioritize each item into one, two or three with one’s being most urgent and three’s the least urgent.

3. Go through your number one and number two items and identify which tasks can be eliminated or delegated. It’s important to get help. DO NOT TRY TO DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF. You WILL burnout. Not only that, but it’s impossible to have a six or seven figure business and do everything yourself. Oprah has a team of over 450. Let’s backup and start with one. What can you delegate that will help bring in more clients to your business. For example, after I write this newsletter, I give it to my VA Janet to make it pretty and send it out for me. She also mails my CDs and many other administrative tasks.

4. Get yourself a good Virtual Assistant (VA) or personal assistant you can delegate tasks to. You will love this, trust me.

5. Schedule in fun time and family time – this is time you’ll never get back. Don’t put this off thinking you don’t have time. You do if you manage your time. Actually, I’d like you to schedule this FIRST and hold yourself to it.

6. Make sure to take a real lunch break away from your work. And take breaks throughout your day. You will return refreshed and alert…. this is key to getting more accomplished in less time, with less effort and more fun. Many of my clients say they don’t have time to take a real lunch break or “Me Breaks” throughout their day. Reluctantly, they agree to try it and EVERY ONE has agreed they love it. And, they do get more accomplished in less time, with less effort and more fun. Try it now for yourself and enjoy the rewards!

If you having a difficulty getting it all done, feeling overwhelmed, feeling guilty because you’re not spending the time you want with your spouse, children and loved ones, check this out and I would love to have you join me, you owe it to yourself, your clients and your loved ones.

Seven Steps to Making Your Offer Irresistible

Build Your Business | Posted by lisalong
Dec 13 2011

Have you ever bought something because it was too good to pass up? I have. That’s why I bought my Kirby vacuum cleaner. The sales person gave me over $1,000 in free bonuses. Even though I liked the performance of the Kirby, and I liked the sales person, it was expensive and I was having a hard time convincing myself to spend that much on a vacuum (I could have gone to Hawaii with that money).manthrowingmoneyyipee Seven Steps to Making Your Offer Irresistible

My friendly salesperson wanted to help me make the decision and own one of these babies for myself. So, he threw in the bonuses that made the offer irresistible. I no longer had to justify spending the money. The deal was done. He got a sale and I still have my Kirby.

How do you make an offer irresistible? Let me show you here -

Seven Steps to Making Your Offer Irresistible

1. Give Them What THEY Want
Never assume you know what they really want, even if you’ve talked with them in the past.
The easiest way to find out what your clients want is(break to blog) to ask them – ask lots of questions.
Then, listen carefully.
Write down the most commonly asked questions.
Answer their questions.
Use their language. Avoid using industry jargon or clinical terms.

2. Cut The Fluff
Avoid adding unrelated products or services just to add bulk. Make sure your entire package is helping them solve their problem.

3. Social Proof
Most do not want to be the first to try something new. They have the mindset of “safety in numbers”. Use lots of testimonials or client success stories.

4. Offer Bonuses That Build Value
What can you give of value that doesn’t cost you a lot in time or money?
Perhaps free tuition to a tele-class, or a free downloadable audio recording. For example, my private Diamond clients get the Fast Start class as a free bonus.
Make sure the bonuses, as well as the main package, are solving your client’s problem.

5. Have A Limiter
For the first 15, 50, 100 – depending on the size of your audience ~or~
For the next 3 days, ending on (date)
- receive a Fast Start Bonus of (product/service/discount)
This can be the bonus offered in #4, or an additional Fast Start Bonus. (An additional bonus makes the offer even more irresistible).

6. Make It Easy For Them
Give your clients multiple ways to purchase – credit card, debit card, phone order, on-line purchase or fax.
Give them payment options – more people will purchase with a choice of smaller payments. If you don’t yet take credit cards or offer payment options (or you want to shop for a better rate) let me know and I’ll give you my representatives info.

7. Be Yourself
People will buy from you because they like you. Be real with them. Don’t try to be perfect or pretend to know everything. They’ll respect you more if you admit you’re not the be all, end all. Have fun. People naturally gravitate to others who appear to have fun and be happy.

P.S. It’s not too late to join me for my free class “The Three Simple Secrets to Making 2012 Your Best Year Ever”. On December 29th, I’m giving away lots of tools and tips on how to 1. How to Accomplish more in less time, with less effort and more fun, 2. How to Get More Clients and Better Clients, 3. Get Bigger and Consistent Paychecks, Plus… bonus material.
